Done Interesting

Yesterday, I read Do Interesting.

It’s a good book. As with all of Russell Davies’ books, you get the minimum of fuss with the maximum oomph, which I think is probably a good indicator of his personality. A man of few words, but (generally) the right ones.

It reminded me that I used to do a lot of what he talks about in the book: notice, collect and share. Except I don’t really share these days.

I particularly enjoyed the prompts on each page or ‘suggestion’ on how to do interesting.

The other thing it reminded me was that I think all the authors for Do Books are white, and mostly male. Which speaks to me about what I started to notice and dislike about Do. The Lectures, the Books, the organisation. Those who attend it (full disclosure, I attended and that’s when it really hit me). White. Male.

So, yeah, it’s a good book. Could have been a long blog post. Probably is several blog posts. Still, I think chucking a tenner at it was worth the money. The Interesting bits I enjoyed are those that are adjacent to the advice on how to cultivate interest.

Less Do (with a capital D) and more INTERESTING in all caps. That’s my review, right there in 12 words.
