We’re to do it fast.
Or not at all.
Yet it’s something we probably – perhaps actually – do all the time.
We fail to get somewhere on time.
To articulate our thoughts coherently.
To agree with someone who has a different point of view to us.
To not look at Twitter.
To phone our parents.
To make short lists.
I’ve been failure a lot.
Yet some of the things I’ve failed at are success in someone else’s eyes.
Because failure is a label set against expectations not working out.
I think this but it turned out to be that.
I was hoping for.
I didn’t get.
Failure can be funny, although not usually to the person who experiences it.
Perhaps they didn’t embrace it fully.
Or do it fast enough.
Is it failure if we didn’t learn something?
What if we set out to fail, is that success?
It’s all probable, then.
I’ve failed to live up to my potential.
I’ve failed as a partner.
A father.
A brother.
A son.
An employee.
A businessman.
Yet I’m still all those things.
I guess I’m addicted to failing.
Or maybe, just maybe, it’s all relative and if I choose to mark it as a success then it is exactly that.
Anything else is your projection of someone else’s own failings.
In which case, we’ve all succeeded.
