Work, Shop

Last week was mostly spent doing the day job, working out what an organisation really does and finding ways to interrogate this with a group of senior people within the business. Then a half day of doing that work with them.

It was enormous fun and a really engaging and engaged group who, rather brilliantly, were able to admit they didn’t know all the answers and were willing to try and find them. We landed (as the common workshop parlance goes) on some interesting ideas that I don’t think I’d have considered had we not had the open and honest discussions needed to get there.

On the music side of my life, I grabbed a Mark E. Smith garland to hang up, courtesy of Hey Kids Rock ‘N’ Roll. I managed to buy some records, too, which came in the post. As ever, I spent a few hours rummaging through crates of vinyl to try and find some albums I’d like to listen to. As ever, I came up empty handed, but also dug out some tunes to listen to in the shop which is always a delight. It means you can test some music out that you don’t know and can’t hear well on a mobile phone speaker.

Having a break on the Friday to mooch around some shops following a day of quite hard brain work and facilitation is the cadence I am most happy with.

Work, then shop. Work-shopping, then.
